Qld: Spy probes to be tested in regional Qld
Unmanned spy planes .. capable of a range of tasks from crop-spraying to detecting
terrorists .. will be tested in regional Queensland.
A workshop at the Queensland University of Technology is focusing on remote-controlled
aircraft .. or unmanned aerial vehicles.
UAVs could be used in the early detection of bushfires .. traffic management .. power
line maintenance .. wildlife surveillance and crop spraying.
The federal government is also looking at the technology to protect remote facilities
like offshore oil rigs from terrorist attack .. and to detect illegal fishing.
Steps are being taken to establish a test area and facility at Kingaroy .. northwest of Brisbane.
